Jackie Cornes

It is with great sadness that we report the death of long-standing Sileby member Jackie Cornes on 27 December.  Together with her husband, Bob, she had been attending SPS meetings since the early 1990s.

Jacie Cornes, who died 27 December 2023

Jackie had been suffering for some considerable time with rheumatoid arthritis, which eventually confined her to a mobility scooter.  She ultimately succumbed to pneumonia and died peacefully in hospital.  Members have been paying tribute to Jackie.

"Jackie was a wonderful example to us all in the way she remained cheerful in spite of all her problems."

"Jackie was a lovely lady with a gorgeous smile and lovely eyes.  She talked with her eyes."

Our thoughts are with Bob.

A New Season Starts: Smartphones at the Ready

The 2023-24 season kicks off in September, when we hope to welcome members, old and new, to our new season of meetings.  As usual, we have a varied programme for you to enjoy, with something to interest everyone.

A new thread of interest this year is in Smartphone Photography, showing that expensive cameras are not a necessity   The Graham Johnson 12-Shot Challenge, where members take pictures on twelve themes to be judged by an guest judge, is based entirely on pictures taken with smartphones.  In the lead-up to that, in early September, we have a talk from an expert in smartphone photography - and lots of other forms of our art - Malcolm Sales.  It's fitting the Malcolm will be judging the 12-Shot Challenge too, in October.

Please note that we meet from 7.15 for a 7.30pm start at St. Mary's Centre on Mountsorrel Lane in Sileby.  It's on the opposite side and about 75 yards down from the church gate.

Members' Area on the SPS Web Site

Don't forget the Members' Area on our Web site.  In it you will find information that is private to the Society and so you will need to know the username and password, details of which were sent out via the SPS mailing list.  If you can't find that email, just ask webmaster@silebyps.org.uk.
