Annual Exhibition 2007
The club holds an Annual Exhibition of members' work. The 53rd Annual Exhibition was held between 22nd and 27th October 2007 in the Village Institute, Sileby.
The almost 240 prints and
100 slides on display were considered by visitors to be continuing our general improvement in standards year-by-year. Such is the diversity of interests from within the membership, that there was something for everyone, whether it be a landscape or cityscape from a far off country, a studio portrait or a fast-action sports picture. There was a particularly strong showing of natural history work this year, all of a very high standard.
We recorded 333 visitors through the door over the six sessions that the Exhibition
was open to the public. This is the most visitors that we have seen since
the heady days of the mid-1980s and is very encouraging for the future of our
hobby.
The unenviable task of judging this year’s Exhibition was kindly undertaken by Bob Rowe
ARPS, and we would like to thank Bob for the time and effort he put in, to what is a very difficult job. The quality of the work this year will have made his job even more difficult.
Our Feature Slide Show this year was entitled ‘The Great Central Railway: The Story So Far’ and featured a selection of slides of historic and up-to-date slides. It will be retained in our library of Exhibition Slide Shows, which are shown to organisations around the Midlands and even further
afield. To find out about these shows and many others, including details of how to book a showing, click
here. This year's show was the first to use our newly-purchased digital
projector, courtesy of the Nation Lottery's Awards For All fund.
The images below show a small selection from the exhibition. On the Sunday before the Exhibition, members rally round to set up the panels and make the venue ready for our visitors. Once the Exhibition is under way, members and visitors alike can enjoy the work on display.
This exhibition would not have been possible without the efforts of members of our Society and the support of the catalogue by our advertisers. Thanks go to all, but in particular we would like to thank our Exhibition Coordinator Kevin Blood , and Competition Secretaries Jackie and Bob Cornes. Thanks also go to Phil Walker, who badgered local businesses into parting with their money to sponsor our Exhibition.
If you didn’t manage to make it to this year's Exhibition, then why not come along next year? Or why not pop along to our Monday evening meetings, you are more than welcome, and who knows, you could be exhibiting your own pictures in next year’s show!
